Time Traveler’s Tales

2011 Doll Challenge from Denver Doll Artisans

Are you ready to travel through time?

Do you dream of knights in shining armor battling dragons just for you?  Do you want to join a pirate crew and sail the seven seas?   Do you want to go back to the seventeenth century and dance the minuet, or to the 1920’s and dance the Charleston?  Maybe you just couldn’t get enough of the ‘60’s?

Or perhaps the future is more your style; cruising in style in starships and making friends with alien species from other worlds.

If you could travel through time, when and where would you go?  Would you have a Jules Verne Time Machine,  a Harry Potter Time Turner or Mr. Peabody’s Wayback Machine?

Now is the time to get your imagination humming and create a doll to reflect your voyage.    The doll may be made of any medium.  It may have human features or it can be animal, mineral, or alien.  To be a doll it should have some facial features.  Your entry must include a tale reflecting your doll.

Please pre-register your creation by mail, using the form included, by January 3, 2011.  There is a $5.00 entry fee for each doll and you may enter as many dolls as you like.  Please note that no entry fees will be refunded.
You may even enter by mail.

Rules

  1. Dolls may be made of any medium.  Porcelain dolls will be judged separately from other media.
  2. Dolls made during a seminar, class or using someone else’s pattern may be entered, but this must be clearly identified on the registration form and wrist tag to give the designer credit.  An original doll is any doll that is your unique idea and uses no commercial pattern for any of the pieces.  Your interpretation of a pattern is not an original doll.
  3. All dolls should have appropriate stands or supports for display and all accessories firmly attached.
  4.  All dolls and props should be marked with the doll maker’s name in case they get separated from their official identification. Please make sure the name is on each item but cannot be seen by the judges as they pick up the entry to evaluate.
  5. Each entry must include a Time Travel Tale; a story, poem or explanation (250 words or less) that will explain (or at least hint at) who and when your doll is.
  6. Dolls should be brought to the Denver Merchandise Mart, 451 E 58th Ave, Denver, CO, 80216 on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 between 4:00 and 5:00 PM.
  7. Mail in entries should be sent to Marion Bolson, 11506 Cherry Drive, Thornton, CO  80233.  They should arrive no later than January 28, 2011.
  8. Entries cannot be removed until Saturday, February 5th at 5:00 P.M. If you need to send someone to pick up the doll, please give them a signed note of permission. We do not want to misplace any dolls or let them go home with the wrong owner. Mail in dolls will be packed and returned to the owners within two weeks of the show date.
  9. Great care will be used with handling the dolls; we know how dear they are to your hearts. However, the Denver Doll Artisans, any of its members or the Rocky Mountain Sew Expo will not be responsible for any harm or theft and if necessary you should obtain insurance as you see fit. The show has guards patrol at night, and the booth will be manned during show hours to reduce any mistreatment or theft.
